The collective monograph "Tajiks" is the next volume of the multi–volume series "Peoples and Cultures" published by the IEA of the Russian Academy of Sciences (the project was developed by the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1992). This work is a fundamental generalization of historical, ethnographic, demographic, anthropological materials on the Tajik people, both received in recent years and published to the present time. The author's map of the settlement of Tajiks has been prepared according to available statistical sources, including the latest Census of the population of the Russian Federation. Data from different years characterizing various historical epochs (including illustrative materials serving as a vivid and valuable source of information) are involved both Russian and Tajik scientific organizations.

The book contains reliable knowledge on the origin of the Tajik people, their settlement, peculiarities of life, basic occupations, housing, clothing, food system, rituals, customs, holidays, folk art. Special attention is paid to the study of the Tajik diaspora, including on the territory of the Russian Federation.

Such a generalization of ethnographic, anthropological and historical data about the Tajiks has not been carried out before.
