Victor Hugo - Man who laughs. Gift book bound in leather
Victor Marie Hugo — French writer, whose works made history and became immortal monuments of the literary heritage. One of the major figures of French romanticism. Member of the French Academy.
The novel of Victor Hugo "the Man who laughs" takes place in England of the late XVII - early XVIII centuries. Gwynplaine is Lord by birth, my childhood was sold to the bandits, the comprachicos made from a child's fairground clown, the cut on his face mask "eternal laughter" (the courts of European nobility at that time there was a fashion for cripples and freaks, zabalawi hosts and guests that the work of the comprachicos sometimes even encouraged). In spite of all tests, Gwynplaine saved the best human qualities and their love. One of the famous adaptations – a silent movie of 1928 by Director Paul Leni, in which the classic ending of the novel is replaced with a happy end.
