Raffaello Giovagnoli (1838-1915) was born in the Italian capital Rome. The childhood and youth of the future writer spent, as all children and youths in those years. In his younger years, Giovagnoli took an active civil position.Getting a historical education, Raffaello taught for a long time and was occupied with collecting various historical facts. For many years his research was marked by the fact that the writer creates a masterpiece of world literature – a work called "Spartacus". The basis of the novel is based on historical facts. The author sings the praises of Spartacus as a fighter for the liberation of the Motherland from the yoke of Roman power. This historic figure in the eyes of Giovagnoli appears as a hero who did not hesitate to give their lives for the Motherland. Giovagnoli wrote many historical novels, but has gained worldwide fame only "Spartak".Outside of Italy on the novel "Spartacus" learned after the writer's death.
