Dangerous Liaisons is a novel written by Pierre Chauderloh de Laclos, a French artillery officer. This is one of the most striking works of the XVIII century, which became the author's only book.

The plot of the novel tells about the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquis de Merteuil, who are plotting a sophisticated intrigue to take revenge on their opponents. They masterfully play on human weaknesses and shortcomings, developing an ingenious strategy and tactics of seduction of the young girl Cecile de Volange.

The twists and turns of the plot at the beginning of the XXI century arouse no less keen interest of readers than in 1782, when the novel was just out of print. This is confirmed by the success of recent film adaptations of the novel.
