Alexander Ivanovich Mikhailovsky-Danilevsky-Lieutenant General, senator, Russian military writer, historian, author of the first official history of the Patriotic War of 1812, written in four volumes on the instructions of Nicholas I, published in 1839 and subsequently reprinted.

The outstanding military writer and statesman A. N. Mikhailovsky-Danilevsky was in the thick of the events of the Patriotic War of 1812, being an aide-de-camp to Prince Kutuzov.

"Description of the Patriotic War" was created by him in 1834-40 by the Highest order of Emperor Nicholas I, when he held the position of senator and head of the military censorship committee. This large-scale work became the first Russian official history of 1812.
