The Code of the Samurai. Hagakure. The Book of Five Rings - Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Miyamoto Musashi. Gift book bound in leather.

Yamamoto Tsunetomo is a samurai from the Saga Principality in the province of Hizen, where Daimyo Nabeshima Mitsushige ruled. Yamamoto devoted 30 years to serving the daimyo and the clan. When Nabeshima died in 1700, Yamamoto did not commit suicide as a sign of loyalty, because his ruler opposed this practice during his lifetime.

Miyamoto Musashi, also known as Shimman Takezo, Miyamoto Bannosuke, Shimman Musashi-no-Kami Fujiwara-no-Gensin, or under his Buddhist name Niten Doraku — Japanese ronin, is considered one of the most famous swordsmen in the history of Japan. His contemporaries gave him the nickname Kensei.

"The Samurai Code"

The Code of the samurai, the rules and norms of behavior of a person who has entered the Path of a Bushido Warrior, have their roots deep in antiquity. The philosophy of samurai was formed both under the influence of rational factors - historical, geographical, social, and under the influence of the spiritual foundations of Japanese society - Buddhism, Shintoism, Zen teachings. All this is reflected in the works of the great warriors Yamamoto Tsunetomo (1659-1719) and Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645). "Hagakure" ("Hidden in the Foliage"), "The Book of the Five Rings", the writings of other outstanding generals constitute the Code of Samurai - a set of rules and norms of behavior that have been followed by many generations of Japanese warriors.

Like all editions of the Great Generals series, the book is provided with detailed historical and biographical comments; the text is accompanied by hundreds of unique illustrations and photographs, many of which the modern reader will get acquainted with for the first time.
