Vasily Vasilievsky. Selected works on the history of Byzantium in 2 books
Vasily Vasilevsky is a Russian byzantinist, academician of the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, founding member and honorary member of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society.
Merit V. G. Vasilievsky is the creation of the Russian school of Byzantine studies, which has experienced its first rapid flowering in the lifetime of a scientist and until 1917 was ranked first in the world. He was lucky to have many talented staff and students, which he founded in 1894, the second in the world, a special magazine devoted to issues of Byzantine history, "Byzantine Vremennik", which is published today and is now the oldest Russian academic journal.

The present edition went published for 1908-1930. in four volumes chosen "the Works of V. G. Vasilevsky" history of the Byzantine Empire, which already long ago became a bibliographic rarity. On the other hand, brilliantly withstood the test of time the relevance of the works of Vasil makes a useful Association included in "the Works" works within the same publication. In those rare cases when the findings of the academician Vasil is in contradiction to modern science (which is associated almost exclusively with the discovery of new sources), the editors thought it appropriate to point this out in the footnotes. All works are reproduced in the modern chart, in accordance with the rules of the modern Russian language. Arrays the Greek and the Slavonic texts typed again. The publication has a common name-based index (absent in the previous edition), updated the output of publications referenced by V. G. Vasilievsky, compiled a list of abbreviations frequently cited works and publications. After this brief introduction we offer the reader two essays on the life and work of academician Vasil, made in the year of his death, his disciples, prominent historians Pavel Vladimirovich Bezobrazov and Ivan Mikhailovich Grissom that in a lively and illustrative manner characterize Vasily G. Vasil as a person and as a scientist.
Work on republishing the works of Vasily Vasil'evich the publishing team dedicates to his memory, and the memory of the deceased on 6 November 2009, the outstanding Russian byzantinology, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, editor-in-chief of the journal "Byzantine Vremennik" Gennady Grigorevich Litavrin, who believed the writings of Basil's model for his own researches.
