Harry Harrison - The Way of the King (in 2 volumes). Gift books bound in leather
"The Way of the King" takes the reader to the dramatic Viking age, when the pagan hammer of Thor clashed in a fierce battle with the Christian cross. The real story is closely intertwined on the pages of the book with the fantastic story: trolls and other dangerous creatures are as commonplace here as a chain mail on the chest and a battle axe raised over the enemy's head.
Harry Harrison and John Holm have created a series of novels set in the 9th century AD. Various religions: Christianity, Islam and northern paganism, their contact and differences, are the basis of these novels. The huge work carried out by the authors on the study of that era creates confidence in the reader in what is happening, in the plausibility of events. Interestingly, none of the religions are approved by the authors. There is confusion caused by completely different beliefs of the characters. Harrison and Holm invented a world rich in excitement, intrigue and adventure. The characters seem real, their feelings are as important as their deeds.
