Gustave Flaubert - Madame Bovary. Gift book bound in leather
"Madame Bovary"
The most famous novel of the great French writer Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880) "Madame Bovary" (1856), which had a huge impact on the development of world literature, is now recognized as a literary masterpiece, while after its first publication, the author and publisher were brought to court for insulting public morality. Flaubert, a subtle psychologist and a brilliant stylist, in a story about the fate of the wife of a provincial doctor, Emma Bovary, demonstrated the tragic hopelessness of love and his skepticism about human relationships. The text of the novel is printed in the classical translation by H. M. Lyubimov and is accompanied by comments by S. A. Osherov. For the first time in Russia, the book publishes a series of illustrations for the novel by the outstanding French artist Umberto Brunelleschi (1879-1949) from the Paris bibliophile edition of 1953, the design of letters and vignettes in which was performed by Andre-Marie Vernier (1917-1967).
