The book is devoted to Romanian history from the time preceding the conquest of Dacia by the Romans (the beginning of the II century) to the end of the XIX century. It tells about the foundation and fate of two principalities, homogeneous from a national and cultural point of view, but different in an administrative sense — Wallachia and Moldavia — and, finally, about their unification (1859) and the beginning of a new stage in the history of this state. This fundamental scientific research, conducted under the auspices of the Center for Transylvanian Studies of the Romanian Cultural Center, is distinguished by the richness of factual material and the non-triviality of the scientific approach. The authors sought to touch upon all the most acute and controversial issues of the history of their country, which are the subject of discussion not only in Romania, but also abroad.
