Volume 1

The introduction is dedicated to Cosimo de ' Medici, followed by a reference and technical text on painting, sculpture and architecture.

Volume 2

In this volume, the actual biographies begin. Here are the biographies of the Trecento painters of the realistic direction, the period in the development of Italian Renaissance art — the Proto-Renaissance period.

Volume 3

The biographies of the masters of the Quattrocento - the era of Italian art of the XV century, correlated with the period of the Early Renaissance, are given, among others.

Volume 4

It is dedicated to the High Renaissance. The biography of mediocre artists and of great talent, who paved new paths in the areas where they worked. Here are, among others, the biographies of such famous personalities as Donato Bramante, Giorgione, Correggio, Raphael Santi, Leonardo da Vinci... The main part of the Italian Mannerists is represented in the fifth part. It also continues the lives of the masters of Venice, who mainly worked after the death of Bellini and Giorgione.
