Nonn Anaboliceski Acts Of Dionysus. Gift book bound in leather
Nonnus of Panopolis (years of life presumably 400-470 ad), author of the last epic of antiquity "the Exploits (Deeds) of Dionysus", spent most of his life in the Egyptian city of Panopolis. The poem consists of 48 songs with a total volume of approximately 22 thousand verses and tells about the origin and incarnations of Dionysus, his war with the Indus and the Giants. This is a huge collection of mythological subjects, quite comparable in its significance to the" Metamorphoses "of Ovid, the" Mythological library "of Apollodorus and the" Argonautics " of Apollonius of Rhodes. The poem contains information about mystical and Orphic cults that are not found anywhere else and serve as our only source about the spiritual life of late antiquity. The essential advantage of the poem is also that it is presented in an artistically convincing form, bright and accessible to the widest range of readers, despite the complexity of the subject. All of the above makes the translation of this poem, which until then did not exist in Russian culture, a huge event in the cultural life of Russia. The publication is provided with an introductory article and a detailed content of all the songs, indexes of names and various kinds of realities found in the poem. Translated from the ancient Greek by Yu. a. golubets. The book is addressed to both experts and lovers of ancient culture and history.
