The collective monograph "Russian Germans" is the next volume of the multi—volume series "Peoples and Cultures" published by the IEA RAS. The Germans (self—name — Deutsche, Deutsche) are the people of the Indo-European language family, one of the largest peoples of Europe, the main population of the Federal Republic of Germany. About 11 million Germans live outside Germany, including about 400 thousand in the Russian Federation. Germans living in Russia are very diverse: linguistic (speakers of not only all German dialects, but also other European languages came to Russia), economic (from gardeners and winegrowers of the Caucasus to livestock breeders and hunters of Siberia), social (from colonialist farmers to academics and members of the ruling dynasty), religious (Catholics, Lutherans, Mennonites, Baptists, Orthodox) and cultural. In the culture of Russian Germans get along as traditional customs, originating from the German lands of the immigration of Germans in Russia (especially in the rites), and culture of modern Germany. The peculiarities of this culture are largely due to the continuous movement, constant migrations, voluntary and forced, several waves of emigration. The culture of Russian Germans is a complex, syncretic culture in which the cultures of Germany and Russia are consistently combined and merge.
