The next volume of the fundamental series "Peoples and Cultures" is devoted to the history and culture of Jews in the territory of the Russian Empire, the USSR and the CIS countries. The monograph examines the general issues of the origin and history of the Jewish people, the features of the historical and anthropological appearance and languages, as well as the problems of studying Jewish folklore and ethnography. The main attention is paid to the ethnopolitical history and the uniqueness of the traditional culture of Russian Jews: their occupations, costume, rituals of the life cycle, religious holidays, food, folk knowledge, folklore, decorative and applied arts, education. Special sections highlight the diverse processes taking place among Jews in the modern world, the relationship of Jews with other nations. In separate sections, historical and ethnographic materials on non-Ashkenazi groups are given: Georgian and Bukharian Jews and Judaizers.
